Dear member,
Welcome to the latest edition of our monthly newsletter aimed at keeping you up to date with news and results from your club. We understand that some of our members aren't able to visit the club as often as they'd like due to work commitments or health issues so this is a valuable way of keeping everyone informed.
We'd love to have more content from you all so feel free to send us any comments you may have, your success stories or anything you feel is worthy of mentioning in the newsletters.
Sadly the past few weeks have been pretty inclement with storm Babet and now Storm Ciaran taking hold of most parts of the UK. The course is damp to say the least but holding up well. We will always aim to keep you up to date with daily course updates, including whether buggies are on or not.
Last week we hosted a free junior golf afternoon aimed at attracting local children to the club with their parents to showcase our club in the hope of growing our junior academy. My thanks to Richard Bollons, Chris Padmore, Ann Berry & Jack White for volunteering their time to help. We had Emma Carberry from England Golf attend to award the medals, she was very impressed at how the club pulled together to host an event like this.
Member referral reward for November is £50 on your bar card for each new member you introduce. T's & C's apply.

Course Manager’s report
As I sit here and write this on the 31st October, we have had 157mm of rain this month, with 130mm of that in the past 12 days. This has meant that we have had to ban buggies and one day of closing the course due to every green being flooded. The course is draining well, and the greens themselves are holding up extremely well considering the weather. We have had to bring out the post & rope to keep golfers out of the wet areas, please could all golfers adhere to this for the protection of the course and of course, the reduction of slipping in wet areas. More post & rope will be added as needed. Hopefully when the rain stops, we can get buggies back on so everyone who needs one can play again.
Please remember that during this wet spell we are struggling to get our mowers out in certain places. This may mean that some areas will have slightly longer grass coverage than normal, but rest assured we will be on it as soon as the conditions allow. We don’t want to leave wheel marks and ruts caused by getting stuck or usage.
One of our planned works for November is paths. We will be levelling them out and topping up new path material and rolling so it remains in place. We will be starting on the path by the 18th Green and the 8th/14th tee areas. This work will be carried out using loud heavy equipment so your patience and understanding during this work will be appreciated.
As always thank you for positive comments about the course this month. Hopefully this wet spell will be over soon
John
Men's Captains report
October has been a busy month.
We started with the away weekend at East Sussex national.
We were fortunate to get a weekend of glorious weather and both courses were in top condition.
Luke Rapley was the winner, just holding off Jack White and Matt Emerson.
The Captain’s team handily beat the Vice Captain’s team on the Monday – thanks for the bottle of malt, Hugh.
Congratulations go to some of the “youngsters” who made a valiant attempt at breaking the East Sussex beer drinking record. I’m sure it won’t be their last try.
My thanks to Brian Smithers who organised the weekend. Everything was perfect. Well done, Brian.
Next year Hugh will be taking us to St Pierre (Sept 22/23) – contact Hugh to sign up. The two rounds of golf, bed, breakfast and dinner has an inclusive cost of £156 if sharing a room and £206 if you prefer a single room and I have reserved 40 places and there could be more if needed.
We celebrated Milford’s 30th birthday with a well attended party. So good to see friends old and new in attendance. I think it’s fair to say that everyone had a cracking night.
The magician, casino and disco were great fun. The food and service was excellent – thanks to the efforts from all the staff.
The auction was a huge success. We had many generous bidders. The professional auctioneer was something to behold. He even managed to squeeze £140 out of a Scotsman.
We made over £2500 for the Back Up Trust on the night.
Thanks to Ann and Hugh for their hard work arranging everything.
Last Saturday was the climax to the summer season with Dave Herniman crowned Golfer of the Year. Great stuff, Dave. Well done.
Thanks to Peter Jackson for his sterling work arranging our competitions all year. We all appreciate your efforts, Peter.
The roll up this Saturday is an 18 hole par 3 competition. Paul Dyer is organising.

Golf professionals report
The junior section is growing and with new children enjoying learning golf in a relaxed environment it is wonderful to see.
We had a very successful open day and I’d like to thank Ann Berry, Jack White, Richard Bollons and Chris Padmore
The parents congratulated everyone on a perfect day!
The junior camps are nearly full so I have added a new one from 1 - 2pm on Saturdays.
What is your short game handicap? Why not come and find out and be surprised at what it actually is? For all members the cost will be reduced from £65 to £50 and will take 1 hour. It’s a brilliant handicap system designed by David Pelz and will give you a true reflection of your ability around the greens.
I would be delighted to hear from as many of you as possible and design a winter programme for you all to get you ready for spring, as believe it or not,
it’s not far away!
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me .
