Is your body fit for golf?

Dear member,

Is your body fit for golf?

We have lined up a special afternoon with a local physiotherapist who specialises in golf screening through the TPI scheme if you'd like to book a free session with him.

Jon Pringle is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Sports Physiotherapist and Clinic Manager at Bodyset, which is the new Physiotherapy clinic on Godalming High Street. He has a wealth of experience with working with all levels of athletes from weekend warriors to Olympic gold medallists.

At Bodyset Godalming we offer Physiotherapy, Sports massage, GolfFit, Bodycheck, RunFit and BikeFit assessments and PelviPower pelvic floor retraining.

Jon will be running a discovery clinic on Friday the 16th of June from 13:00 to 15:00, in the Secrett’s Suite, where he will offer 15 minute appointments to discuss any problems that you might be having and whether it needs an active intervention or if he can give you a few exercises to start working on. Please contact Jon to let him know your time slot at jon.pringle@bodyset.co.uk.

Bodyset – GolfFit Screen

Our GolfFit Screen – Is a 2-part assessment based on the Titleist Performance Institute Level 1 Screen, where we undertake a full-body assessment followed by a golf swing analysis. We work within the TPI Principles that “We don’t believe there is one way to swing a club; we believe there are an infinite number of ways to swing a club. But we do believe that there is one efficient way for everyone to swing a club and it is based on what they can physically do.” We aren’t looking to try to force your body to do something that it isn’t physically able to do which is more likely to injure you than make you a better golfer.

Firstly, we will take a deep dive into your mobility, strength and flexibility, using a range of golf-specific tests and measurements to analyse how your body moves and functions. This will include objective measurements and technologies to pinpoint any areas of stiffness, weakness or hypo-mobility in your body. Additionally, we will measure a series of key functional muscle and joint movements that are specific to golf, looking at your normal movement patterns and limitations.

Secondly, we will look at your golf swing from multiple angles and see how your body is actually moving during the swing. This aids us to identify what swing characteristics you display, and whether you are swinging efficiently, as these could impact on the risk of injury and identify some root causes of any pain experienced.

The results of your assessment will allow our Bodyset experts to advise you on the most relevant exercises and/or treatment programme to keep you physically fit for golf and avoid pain and discomfort during your game. With your consent, we will also liaise closely with your coaches to discuss any findings, in order to create a tailored and personalized coaching plan, including, advice on areas to work on within your coaching sessions and add specific technical details that are required to enhance your game and performance. This will allow you to deliver an explosively powerful and consistently repeatable golf swing sequence, from the backswing, through to impact with a high club-head speed and strong finish position.
